“The Truants”
Curator: Piotr Schollenberger, Towarzystwo Krajoznawcze Krajobraz, Warszaw 2026
From September 11 to 25, 2026, the exhibition “Giganciarze” presented a series of linocuts I created over the past three years. The work revolves around animal themes, primarily feline creatures.
I started working on this series while finishing my PhD, looking for non-academic ways to talk about the world. This grew into a broader return to printmaking. The exhibition is a record of coming back to the joy of creation, as well as an exploration of craft, which plays an increasingly important role in my work.
Curator text:
“Sociology is practiced by every child casting light reflections onto the neighbors’ windows. It is also practiced by every voyeur who cannot tear their eyes from silhouettes flickering in the moonlight on a street where the lamplight fails to reach. An accomplice to mysterious doings is he who looks, though he really shouldn’t, as well as she who does not look, though she should.
Examining reality can take various forms: from the intrusive-provocative, known in certain circles as experiment, to the evasive-anxious, which experts call theoretical reflection. One consists of poking reality with a stick or a mirror; the other—of escaping from it into one’s head, where, as everyone knows, it is much quieter.
(…)
And cats? Cats, on the other hand, are the light reflections that the world casts into the windows of our souls.“
